BARK BLVD requires all dogs participating in Boarding, Daycare, or Bathing services to be current on required vaccinations. This helps us maintain a safe and healthy environment for all guests.
All vaccines must be administered by a licensed veterinarian. Vaccines given by a breeder, rescue, or shelter may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Dogs 6 Months of Age and Older Required Vaccinations:
- Rabies
- Distemper/Parvo
- Bordetella
Timing Requirements:
Rabies & Distemper/Parvo
Must be current, or if expired, must be given at least 14 days before arrival.
Bordetella
- Intranasal: Must be current or given at least 7 days before arrival
- Oral or Injectable (SubQ): Must be current or given at least 14 days before arrival
- Bordetella vaccines must be updated every 12 months
Bordetella Recommendation
BARK BLVD recommends an intranasal Bordetella vaccine that includes parainfluenza and adenovirus-2, as this provides broader and faster protection against common canine cough strains.
Note: While combination vaccines (DHPP/DAPP) include parainfluenza and adenovirus protection, studies show the intranasal Bordetella vaccine provides quicker and more complete coverage.
Puppies Under 6 Months of Age
- Puppies must be at least 16 weeks old to schedule a BARK BLVD Meet & Greet phone interview.
- Puppies are generally considered fully vaccinated around 16 weeks of age.
- Puppies typically receive 3–4 distemper/parvo vaccinations, with the final dose around 16 weeks.
Puppy Vaccination Requirements
2nd Distemper/Parvo: Must be given at least 10 days before the Meet & Greet
3rd Distemper/Parvo: Required before staying at BARK BLVD
Bordetella:
Intranasal: 10 days before Meet & Greet
Oral or Injectable: 14 days before Meet & Greet
Rabies: Required by 6 months of age (typically given between 4–6 months)
Vaccine Exemptions
Rabies: No exemptions allowed. Titer tests are not accepted under state law.
Distemper/Parvo: Exemptions may be allowed with a written veterinarian waiver.
Bordetella: No exemptions allowed.
Medical & Behavioral Updates
When making a reservation or at check-in, please inform our staff of any new or significant medical or behavioral changes, including but not limited to:
New medical diagnoses
Long-term conditions (seizures, tumors, Addison’s, etc.), digestive issues (vomiting or loose stool), or new lumps or bumps
Recent surgeries or procedures
We will review any vet-recommended restrictions or medications. Dogs with medical restrictions can often be accommodated, but we strongly encourage discussing this by phone before check-in.
Dog altercations
Any incidents involving another dog outside of BARK BLVD services
Behavior changes
New possessive or resource-guarding behaviors, increased fearfulness, or any aggression toward people or dogs (including the potential to bite)
Monitoring & Communication
While your dog is with BARK BLVD, we closely monitor eating, bathroom habits, and behavior.
If any medical or behavioral concerns arise, a team member will contact you by phone or email, depending on urgency. Non-urgent matters may be discussed at pick-up. We value open communication with pet parents.
Heat Cycles
Dogs in heat are not eligible for boarding or daycare at BARK BLVD.
- If your dog goes into heat before their stay, please contact us to adjust appointments.
- If a dog goes into heat during their stay, pick-up will be required, or we can help arrange boarding with a veterinarian.
Senior & Special Care Dogs
For elderly dogs or those with serious medical conditions, a Rainbow Protocol may be discussed to prepare for potential emergency or end-of-life situations.
We want to share important information about Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC), commonly referred to as Canine Cough.
What is CIRDC?
A highly contagious respiratory illness in dogs caused by multiple viruses and bacteria, which may act alone or together
Spread through:
- Air (coughing or sneezing)
- Direct dog-to-dog contact
- Contaminated objects (bowls, toys, bedding, blankets, people, etc.)
Vaccines & Protection
Vaccines help protect against several pathogens, but do not provide 100% protection.
Their purpose is to:
- Reduce the severity of illness
- Lower the risk of pneumonia
Common Symptoms
Coughing: A harsh, dry hacking cough or a quieter “huffing” sound, often followed by gagging.
Phlegm: Dogs may appear to gag or vomit but produce foamy phlegm (or nothing). This is a productive cough and can be a good sign.
Nasal discharge: Clear, yellow, or green discharge around the nose. Frequent nose-licking may indicate discharge you don’t see.
Sneezing or eye discharge
Energy level changes
Some dogs may seem tired or unwell, but many continue eating, drinking, and acting normally.
BARK BLVD Policies Related to CIRDC
BARK BLVD follows a detailed CIRDC safety protocol, and staff are trained to recognize symptoms and respond appropriately.
Dogs showing symptoms of canine cough may not attend BARK BLVD until they have been:
- Symptom-free for 14 days, and
- Have completed all prescribed medications (if applicable)

- Must be current or
- Given at least 14 days prior to arrival

BARK BLVD recommends an intranasal Bordetella vaccine that includes parainfluenza and adenovirus-2. This broader protection helps reduce the risk of infection.
While combination vaccines (DHPP/DAPP) include some protection, studies show that the live intranasal vaccine provides faster and more complete coverage. Please consult your veterinarian to determine the best option for your dog.
